How To Clean Mold Off Walls
HOW TO CLEAN MOLD OFF WALLS
Mold growth typically occurs in dark, damp, warm areas with poor ventilation. Mold on walls is often caused by hidden moisture from plumbing leaks, roof damage, or poorly insulated pipes that allow condensation to build up behind walls.
⚠️ Before cleaning, fix any leaks or moisture issues as soon as they’re discovered. Mold will continue to return if the underlying moisture problem isn’t resolved.
Why Mold Is a Problem
In addition to being unsightly, mold can negatively impact indoor air quality. Mold releases microscopic spores that may trigger:
- Allergic reactions
- Sneezing or runny noses
- Irritating or musty odors
Proper cleaning and ongoing moisture control are essential.
Choosing the Right Cleaner
An EPA-registered disinfectant can help inhibit the growth of mold and mildew and control the odors associated with them when used on hard, non-porous surfaces.
When diluted at 2 ounces per gallon, ADVANAGE the Wonder Cleaner® Green Apple helps inhibit mold and mildew growth and associated odors on hard, non-porous surfaces.
Mold & Mildew Control Directions
- Apply Solution
Apply the use-solution to hard, non-porous surfaces using a cloth, mop, sponge, sprayer, or by immersion. Thoroughly wet the surface. - Allow Contact Time
Treated surfaces must remain wet for 10 minutes. - Wipe or Air Dry
Wipe dry with a cloth, sponge, or mop—or allow the surface to air dry. - Heavy Soil
For heavily soiled areas, preliminary cleaning is required before treatment. - Sprayer Use
- Use a coarse spray device
- Spray from 6–8 inches away
- Rub with a brush, sponge, or cloth
- Avoid breathing spray mist
- Repeat as Needed
Repeat treatment every 7 days, or more frequently if new mold growth appears. - Food-Contact Surfaces
Rinse all food-contact surfaces (countertops, appliances, tables, stovetops) with potable water before reuse.
Prevention Tip Improve ventilation, control humidity, and dry wet areas promptly to help prevent mold from returning.
